In Writing Task 3 you write a short, polite e-mail of about 40 words, usually to someone you address as Sie. You apologise and explain why something does not work out.

What the examiners look for
- Both tasks: apologise politely and give the reason why you are not at home. Suggesting another date is a good extra.
- Formal register: Sie throughout, greeting “Sehr geehrte Frau Osterkamp” and sign-off “Mit freundlichen Grüßen”.
- Short and clear: about 40 words. Less than half (under 20 words) means 0 points for the whole task.
- Polite forms: “Leider …”, “Das tut mir sehr leid.”, “Wäre … möglich?” make the text friendly and appropriate.
