Overview

The Listening module at a glance

The Hören module of the ÖSD B1 exam takes about 40 minutes. You listen to various everyday audio texts and solve tasks (e.g. true/false or multiple choice). It is scored out of 100 points; passed from 60 %.

Some texts you hear once, others twice. The key is to read the tasks beforehand and listen specifically for the information asked for.

Which audio texts come up?

Longer reports

An interview or radio report — understanding main points and details.

Strategy

How to get the most points in listening

You do not improve listening comprehension by “listening more”, but by strategy. Four things make the difference:

  • Read the tasks BEFORE listening — you know what to listen for
  • Focus on key words and numbers, do not try to understand every word
  • Mark answers on the first listen, verify on the second
  • Never leave anything blank — when in doubt, mark an answer
