Goethe B1 model test: experience the whole exam beforehand

Five complete model tests in the format of the Goethe-Zertifikat B1, with Lesen, Hören, Schreiben and Sprechen, a timer and points per module as in the exam.

The module

What is a Goethe B1 model test?

A model test is a complete mock exam: the same four modules, the same task types, the same number of items and the same times as in the real exam. It shows you where you stand in each module before it counts.

The Goethe-Zertifikat B1 and the ÖSD Zertifikat B1 (ZB1) are the same exam, so a model test fits both. The ÖSD ZDÖ B1 has a different format.

What a complete model test includes

Lesen, Hören and Schreiben form the written exam, about 165 minutes in total without breaks. Sprechen is the oral exam.

ModuleTimePartsPoints
Lesen65 min5 parts, 30 items100, pass from 60 (18 correct)
Hörenapprox. 40 min4 parts, 30 items100, pass from 60 (18 correct)
Schreiben60 min3 tasks40 + 40 + 20, pass from 60
Sprechenapprox. 15 min in pairs, 15 min preparation3 parts28 + 40 + 16 + 16 pronunciation, pass from 60

Each module counts on its own: 60 of 100 points in every module, with no balancing between modules.

Our 5 model tests

All five are our own, newly written exam sets in the format of the Goethe-Zertifikat B1. They are not official materials of the Goethe-Institut or ÖSD.

All 4 modules, real format

Every model test has all parts with the right number of items, with a timer and audio right in your browser. Each set has its own topics.

Points as in the exam

Lesen and Hören are scored instantly and converted to a score out of 100, with the line at 60, plus solutions, explanations and transcripts.

Feedback on Schreiben and Sprechen

Your texts are scored on Erfüllung, Kohärenz, Wortschatz and Strukturen. With Pro you practise Sprechen live with an AI partner.

How to use the model tests

A model test helps most when it feels like the exam. So:

  • Take a first model test early to find your weakest module, then practise that one part by part.
  • Stick to the times: Lesen, Hören and Schreiben in one go, without a dictionary and without your phone.
  • Afterwards, go through every wrong answer with its explanation, not just the points.
  • Schedule your last model test a few days before the exam, not the evening before.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Are these official Goethe model tests?

No. Our 5 model tests are our own, newly written materials in the exam format. The Goethe-Institut provides an official model test on goethe.de. ExamReady is independent and not affiliated with the Goethe-Institut or ÖSD.

How long does a full Goethe B1 model test take?

The written modules take about 165 minutes in total without breaks: Lesen 65, Hören approx. 40 and Schreiben 60 minutes. Then there is Sprechen, with 15 minutes of preparation and approx. 15 minutes in pairs.

When should I take a model test?

Once early on, to see which module is tightest. And once more a few days before the exam, with the timer and in one go, so you know the pace and still have time to go over your mistakes.

Can I practise just one module or one part?

Yes. You can take each model test in full or practise each part on its own, for example only Hören Teil 2. There is also a lesson in the course for every part.

What does the model test cost?

You start for free: every day you get 2 keys, and each one opens a lesson or a task for good. Pro unlocks everything, including Sprechen with the AI partner: €24.90 for 30 days or €49.90 for 90 days, paid once, no subscription.

ExamReady is an independent learning platform and is not affiliated with the Goethe-Institut or ÖSD. All tasks are original materials written in the exam format.
