Practise ÖSD B1 reading

In the reading module, “understanding every word” is not the point — strategy and time management are. Learn the structure here and practise for free.

Overview

The Reading module at a glance

The Lesen module of the ÖSD B1 exam takes about 65 minutes. You read several everyday texts — from short ads to longer articles — and solve tasks (e.g. true/false, multiple choice or matching). It is scored out of 100 points; passed from 60 %.

The biggest hurdle is usually time. If you read every text word by word, you will not finish — targeted skimming and finding specific information are what counts.

Strategy

How to get the most points in reading

You improve reading comprehension above all through technique and time management. Four things help immediately:

  • Read the tasks first — you know what you are looking for
  • Skim for an overview, scan for details
  • Infer unknown words from context, do not get stuck
  • Budget your time per text — leave nothing unanswered
