ÖIF Integrationsprüfung B1 — structure, scoring and preparation
The ÖIF integration exam B1 combines a German test at level B1 with questions on values and orientation knowledge. Here you find the exact structure, the points — and a place to practise exactly this format.
One exam for language and values
The ÖIF Integrationsprüfung B1 is taken mainly for the Integration Agreement (Module 2) and for citizenship. It tests two things at once: your German at level B1 and your knowledge about life in Austria — from work and health to the basic values of living together.
The language part follows the Deutsch-Test für Österreich (DTÖ): listening, reading, writing and a conversation with the examiner. Added to that are 18 questions from the official values catalogue. Whether the exam is sufficient for your specific purpose is always decided by the responsible authority.
The five parts of the exam
Written exam: listening, reading, writing and the values questions. Then the oral exam. All audio plays only once.
The points you need
Unlike modular exams, the language part counts as a whole — listening and reading are added together. The exam is passed when you reach B1 in the language part and pass the values part.
- Listening + reading together: at least 33 of 45 points
- Writing: at least 15 of 20 points
- Speaking: at least 75 of 100 points
- Values and orientation knowledge: at least 25 of 45 points
The official question catalogue — complete, for practice
The 18 values questions in the exam come from an official ÖIF catalogue. You can work through exactly this catalogue on ExamReady — question by question, organised by topic, with the official point values.
- All 185 questions of the official catalogue, organised into 7 topics
- Both official model-test mixes as exam simulation
- Weighted like the exam: 2 points (a/b) and 3 points (a/b/c)
ÖSD Zertifikat B1 and ÖIF Integrationsprüfung B1 compared
Both exams certify German at level B1 — but they differ in structure and purpose. For the Integration Agreement (Module 2) you need an integration exam that combines language AND values. The classic ÖSD Zertifikat B1 is a pure language certificate. The binding answer always comes from your authority.
| ÖSD Zertifikat B1 | ÖIF Integrationsprüfung B1 | |
|---|---|---|
| Parts | 4 modules: Lesen, Hören, Schreiben, Sprechen | 5 parts: plus values and orientation knowledge |
| Scoring | Each module separately, pass from 60% — modules can be retaken individually | Listening + reading together (33/45), writing 15/20, speaking 75/100, values 25/45 |
| Speaking | Usually in pairs with another candidate | Conversation with the examiner |
| Audio | Once or twice depending on the task | All texts only once |
| Typical purpose | Language certificate, e.g. for work or study | Integration Agreement (Module 2), permanent residence, citizenship |
With ExamReady you practise both formats — one account, one Pro access.
ÖIF B1 — answered briefly
What do I need the ÖIF Integrationsprüfung B1 for?
Mainly for Module 2 of the Integration Agreement (e.g. for permanent residence) and for citizenship. Whether it is sufficient in your specific case is decided by the responsible authority — ExamReady prepares you for the exam format.
What is the difference between ÖSD B1 and ÖIF B1?
The classic ÖSD Zertifikat B1 tests language only, in four separately scored modules. The ÖIF integration exam combines a language test in the DTÖ format with 18 values questions — making it a combined certificate for the Integration Agreement.
How does the values part work?
18 questions in 40 minutes: questions 1–9 have two answer options (2 points each), questions 10–18 have three (3 points each). You pass from 25 of 45 points. All questions come from an official catalogue that you can practise completely beforehand.
What happens if my language part only reaches A2 level?
The language part is scaled: with 20–32 points in listening + reading you are at A2 level. For the Integrationsprüfung B1, however, you need B1 results throughout — otherwise it counts as not passed. That is exactly why an honest dress rehearsal pays off.
Can I practise the complete ÖIF format on ExamReady?
Yes. Five complete model sets in the DTÖ format (all five parts, audio plays once, AI feedback on writing and speaking according to the official criteria) plus the complete values catalogue as training. Reading, listening and values from model set 1 are free.
