In Writing Task 2 you react to someone’s opinion in the online guestbook of a TV show and write your own, about 80 words. There are no bullet points: your opinion, reasons and an example make the text.

Margot, 18.11. 20:47 UhrIch gehe seit meiner Kindheit in den Zirkus, und die Tiere waren immer das Schönste daran. Die Pferde und Elefanten werden gut versorgt, die Tierpfleger lieben ihre Tiere. Ein Zirkus ohne Tiere ist für mich kein richtiger Zirkus mehr.

Ich kann Margot gut verstehen, denn als Kind fand ich die Tiere im Zirkus auch am spannendsten. Trotzdem bin ich heute für einen Zirkus ohne Tiere. Ein Elefant braucht viel Platz, aber im Zirkus lebt er meistens in einem engen Wagen und fährt jede Woche in eine andere Stadt. Das ist kein gutes Leben, auch wenn sich die Pfleger viel Mühe geben. Letzten Sommer habe ich mit meinen Kindern einen Zirkus nur mit Artisten und Clowns besucht, und die beiden waren total begeistert.
What the examiners look for
- State your own opinion clearly and react to Margot, for example: “Ich kann Margot verstehen, aber …”. Just retelling her opinion is not enough.
- Reasons and an example: at least two reasons (denn, weil, deshalb) and one concrete example from your own life.
- Guestbook text type: a post for all readers, without “Liebe Margot” and without a sign-off like in an e-mail.
- Vocabulary and structures: contrasts with “trotzdem” or “aber”, subordinate clauses with “wenn” or “weil”, varied sentence openings.
