Writing politely: Sie or du
A short building block with no exam task: the language you need in these parts of the exam.
- Schreiben · Aufgabe 3
- Schreiben · Aufgabe 1
You choose Sie or du to suit the person, write the greeting and sign-off correctly, ask politely, apologise and say thank you, and keep the same tone to the end.

Two emails, two tones
In Schreiben you write two emails: in Aufgabe 1 to a friend (du), in Aufgabe 3 a short, polite email, usually to someone you call Sie. Together they are worth 60 of 100 points.
Whether the tone suits the person is part of the criterion Erfüllung (task fulfilment). The sheet for Aufgabe 3 even says: “Vergessen Sie nicht die Anrede und den Gruß am Schluss.” (Do not forget the greeting and the sign-off.)
